Star Shine Group’s history can be traced back to 1998, when our founders, Dato’ Soh Thian Lai and Dato’ Dr. Hii Wi Sing formed Star Shine Marketing to act as the marketing arm for YKGI for its GI and PPGI Products. Star Shine Marketing is a 65% owned subsidiary company of YKGI, and was formed to tap into the Peninsular Malaysia market to expand YKGI’s marketing coverage which was then limited to the East Malaysia market.
Over the years, we expanded our trading activities by expanding our product range to meet the requirements of our increasing customer base. In 2001, Star Shine Global Trading was incorporated as a 51% owned subsidiary company of Star Shine Marketing to market and sell Flat Products.
In 2003, marketing offices were established in Penang and Malacca to widen our service network in the northern and southern regions of Peninsular Malaysia respectively, whilst our Head Office in Klang, which was located within Integrated Coil Coating Industry (ICCI) premises, continues to service the central and east coast regions of Peninsular Malaysia.
In 2003, Star Shine Steel Products was incorporated as a 51% owned subsidiary company of Star Shine Marketing to carry out processing and trading of Long Products. In the course of our business, we realised that end users require steel products of specific dimensions and/or shapes which were not directly available from steel mills and other steel traders. This led to Star Shine Steel Products further venturing into steel processing of Flat Products in 2005 by offering value added services such as slitting, shearing, corrugation, wire-drawing, bar straightening/bending and C-Purlin forming.
In 2005, Star Shine Marketing acquired a 55% equity interest in Star Shine Industries as part of our downstream expansion. Star Shine Industries was initially involved in the manufacturing of drawer slides before venturing into the manufacturing of Tubes and Pipes in 2008. Star Shine Industries’ production plant is located in Ipoh, Perak.
In line with our business expansion, Star Shine Marketing has further acquired 24.5% and 18.0% equity interest in Star Shine Steel Products and Star Shine Industries in 2007 to strengthen and streamline the operations within our Group.
In 2007, our northern region marketing office was relocated from Penang to our production plant in Ipoh to centralize our northern region marketing coverage. To cater for our expanding business, we also relocated our Head Office from ICCI’s premise to our current premise in Kawasan Perindustrian Sungai Puloh, Klang, in 2008. Our new premise provides us with expanded processing and storage facilities.
Over thirteen (13) years, we have successfully grown and evolved from merely a trading company into an established group specialising in trading, processing and manufacturing of steel products. Under the leadership of our Executive Directors, all our subsidiary companies were accredited with ISO 9001:2000 in 2006 and ISO 9001:2008 in 2011. These accreditations are in recognition of our consistency in producing and delivering quality products to our customers. In 2008 and 2009, Star Shine Steel Products was awarded the Golden Bull Award, organised by Nanyang Siang Pau Sdn Bhd, in recognition of the company being one of the outstanding SMEs in Malaysia.
